The new Icom IC-7100 has the stamp of approval from the FCC. The price is a few cents under $1700 and it seems that most retailers are out of stock for the first run. I assume this is due to pre-orders. The price is about where I guessed a few months back. IMO its a bit high. However, I assume after a few months the price will come down $200 or so putting it at a ore realistic number.

Anyone plan on buying one?

What would justify spending about $600 more than the IC-7000?

Includes D-Star, 222MHz and 1.2GHz?

I know...we can dream.

Well, you got one right. It does include D-Star. I don't use it but others do. I guess that is good for those who don't want to run multiple rigs mobile. If you add up the cost of the 7000 and the ID-880H now you are only talking about $150 difference. I suppose that extra $150 is a convenience fee.

I expect it to settled down at about $1400-1500 in the future.

I guess it all depends on what you want. I don't have any particular plan to bag one though.

It's nice to have all of that combined. I also wonder if it has fixed the problems plaguing the 7000 such as overheating. It also has a touch screen. 7000 is all knobs and buttons.

Touch screens are okay for some things, but when it come to radios I prefer knobs.

Well, I don't know how much activity there is on 1.2GHz that would justify that price. 220MHz I can see and maybe D-Star, but it would be attractive at a lower price. To me $600 is a lot for that alone.

There's a good bit of 1.2GHz activity in the NEOH area...even some 902MHz repeaters. Yes, those options would be nice.

1.2GHz is where all the cool DSTAR stuff is.

Just spent some time with one of these. The touch screen is very cool but takes time getting used to and gets smudged easily. Performance is about the same as the IC-7000 but a few more whistles and bells and a little better DSP. There were reports of a clicking noise on transmit but it looks like Icom fixed that because I did not notice any unwanted sounds in the TX monitor and both of the two stations I worked remarked on how good the TX audio was.

Over all a strange looking rig but not a bad radio in terms of performance.

It looks like an interesting radio. While I prefer y old boat anchors when it comes to HF it would still be nice to have at least 1 state of the art all band all more radio. Currently all my vhf/uhf stuff is new and all my HF stuff is ancient. However, I don't like to buy a new radio until I get a chance to get some thorough reviews. So I think I'll hold off till I find out what people think og it and probably be then the price will have dropped as well.
