Last week, on my way over to Radio Shack to pick up a connector, there was this Hobby Store right next to RS, so I stopped in.  Then I was standing right in front of this model kit of the old Lost in Space Jupiter 2 space ship, fully detailed.  My childhood memories and feelings took over, I must have this model kit.  the model of the ship was 18 inches in diameter, and $99.  So far, I have the lower part of the super structure spray painted "German Silver", and have the legs mounted.  I need more spray paint....

I built the robot from a kit as well

I have a bunch of motorcycle models in all scales and types - and before I got involved with radiocommunications I used to scratchbuild HO-scale railroad rolling stock and structures.

One of my long-ago CB buddies (elderly German engineer type) scratchbuilt entire steam locomotives in HO scale from brass. The only commercial parts he used were the motors, drive gears and couplers; everything else including wheels and connecting rods was created on his miniature lathe and milling machine.

I tried putting models together once...very frustrating for me. Not a long lived hobby by any means. Hope you enjoy it though.

Where is the model of Penny or Judy? Is that the Moebius Model? I'm into RC Submarines. That would make an interesting submersible to fly around in the pool.

As a kid I used to build the wood type airplanes where you build the entire frame and then cover it with silkspan. Some we and flying them on control lines. Then I started making bigger and bigger ones and put bigger and bigger motors on them. The larges CL plane I built was a stunter with a 4 ft wingspan and powered by a .40 cu inch gas motor. After that I got into RC planes, gas powered and built up from wood. I haven't flown a fixed wing model in years. These days I fly RC helicopters, mostly electric. Lot of carbon fibre and metal involved in the construction.

I got into paper models a few years ago. Was working the night shift and needed something to keep my occupied.

Paper models were popular during WWII when other modeling materials were in short supply. These days you can get all kinds of patterns online. Pretty cheap to do, all you need is a printer, some cardstock an exacto type knife and some glue.

I got into RC a long time ago but have become more active since I retired. My only problem is that I enjoy building airplanes as much as flying them and I simply have too many. I'm gonna have a sale this spring and get rid of at least a dozen or more planes.

This is one of my small electrics from several years ago.

I used to build and fly both gas powered control line and rc airplanes. It was a lot of fun. In recent years I switched to helicopters as they require less room to fly and wide open space is scarce around my area. Thus helicopters are more practical for a guy like me living in a suburban setting. Plus the electrics are pretty quiet so i can fly without alerting the whole neighborhood to the fact that I am in the air. I missed a good chance to fly at my brothers place this Thanksgiving. he has a lot more room than i have here. I was going to bring a helicopter but it was so windy that I figured, why bother. But when i got up to his place there was almost no wind all afternoon. It figures.

Did you every try a helicopter ? It was a bit tricky for me at first even though I was experienced with planes. But once you get the hang of it helicopters are very easy to fly. I might also try a plane again one of these days.
